League standings available at GoNecksGo.com

Well, it took some fancy code wrangling and time but GoNecksGo.com now has a league standings page. There you’ll be able to find all of the stat goodies like wins, losses, games behind, win percentage, as well as home and away records.

Setting this up for you was a pretty good learning experience. I had always wondered how leagues calculated how many games behind each team out of first place were. After a little investigation — and some help from a few kind souls in the forums — I found out.

With a teaser like that you didn’t think I was going to leave you hanging did you? Ok, so to calculate how many games behind a team is you’ll need the following stats:

  • 1st place team wins
  • 1st place team losses
  • Wins for the team you’re calculating the GB for
  • Losses for the team you’re calculating the GB for
  • A calculator for the mathematically challenged

The first step is to find the differences between the wins and losses and add those together. Once you’ve got the result of that equation you divide it by 2. Written as a formula it would look like this, ((1st place wins - your team wins) + (your team losses - 1st place losses)) ÷ 2. So, if you have one team that is 5–3 and another that is 4–4 the formula would break down to ((5 - 4) + (4 - 3)) ÷ 2. One step further, (1 + 1) ÷ 2 which would give you 2 ÷ 2 and make your team 1 game behind.

The Go! ‘Necks! Go! standings page lists the division breakdown of the league standings. I’ve also set up a link so you can get a look at how the teams look in comparison with each other for the entire league.

Awesome job, can’t wait to see more features here. Oh, and more fights!
