Rougnecks trade Williams for Dowling

Getting back into the thick of things, Roughneck GM Kurt Silcott has made another trade, this time sending rookie Ryan Marshall to Portland for veteran Ted Dowling. Some of you may remember Dowling from the 2004 campaign where with 45 goals and 33 assists he helped us win the Champions Cup.

This trade is as usual pending NLL approval but neither team seems to consider that a problem. There was an addition condition to the trade according to Silcott. It would seem that lately Dowling has been having a little health trouble. The condition of the trade Silcott refers to would give Calgary a 2nd round draft pick from Portland in the event that Dowling is unable to play. The GM is “confident that Ted will be abel to come in and play for us.”

Dowling, a Victoria native, has been on and off the team quite often over the past two years. With stints in Portland and San Jose. With 14 years of experience in the NLL and a championship ring during that time I’m not complaining.

This trade definitely smells of some positive energy for the team in my books. Dowling is an experienced player with very strong offense. He’s also worked with the boys before and I’m sure they will fall into a very comfortable — and positive — rhythm in no time. Something he has proven he can do when last year he racked up 23 points after being brought back to Calgary for the last five regular season games and one playoff game.
