Calgary Roughnecks lose to Colorado Mammoth in semi finals
In what seems to be an extremely exciting game in Denver tonight, the Calgary Roughnecks fought valiantly but come out on the bottom in overtime. The Mammoth will be moving on to the West Division final against either the Portland Lumberjax or the Arizona Sting — current score is 12–10 for Arizona the Arizona Sting — who beat the Portland Lumberjax 14–11.
Interestingly enough, the Roughnecks managed to score the first two goals in each quarter of the game, until overtime. During the first quarter scoring was even with both teams at 4 ending the frame. The next quarter is where Calgary fell behind, by a lot. At one point falling behind by 5 goals. Due to some hard work by the Roughnecks they managed to close the gap to one.
In the second half, my man Kevin Dostie started the comeback. By the end of the third quarter Calgary was down by three. Once again, to start off the frame Calgary got on the board first. Tracey Kelusky, Jason Wulder, Lewis Ratcliff and Kaleb Toth all had goals in the fourth quarter to take the lead. The Mammoth’s Andrew Burkholder put two in the net giving Colorado the edge. Following that, in the final minute of regulation time, the star of the game — in my opinion — Kevin Dostie tied it up for Calgary.
The season went down the drain when Brian Langtry scored for Colorado 1:55 into OT. In this game, even though Colorado won, I’m putting my vote in for Kevin Dostie to be voted the star of the game. With 5 goals and 4 assists for a total of 9 points, this man kicked some serious butt and took some big names. El Capitan, Tracey Kelusky put up an impressive 4 goals and 4 assists. Curtis “The Door” Palidwor put in half a game and managed to get an assist during that time.
It was also amazing to see how the powerplay line managed to capitalize tonight. For the majority of the season the Roughnecks had a lot of trouble. Tonight, on the other hand, puts all the in the dust by going 7 for 6 on the powerplay against Colorado. Awesome!
Another small consolation, the Rochester Knighthawks took out the Toronto Rock earlier this evening. So much for the returning champs.
