2007 Calgary Roughnecks schedule available for download

The entire 2007 Calgary Roughnecks lacrosse schedule has been prepared so you, the loyal fan, can download it and add it to whatever application you use to schedule your life. This downloadable file is available as a .csv file for anyone using Outlook and a .ics file for those using applications such as iCal or any xCal compatible application.

Head on over to the Roughnecks schedule page to download the files.

Roughnecks logo removed from GoNecksGo.com website

In case you couldn’t tell, there have been a couple changes around GoNecksGo.com recently. These changes, at the moment, are mainly cosmetic and are meant as preventative measures against potential legal action. Before things get blown out of proportion, I want to make it clear that no lawyers are involved, I’ve just been given a “heads up” on the proper, or rather, improper use of the official Roughnecks logo on GoNecksGo.com. GoNecksGo.com is now searchable

After putting it off for far, far too long, I’ve finally had the chance make GoNecksGo.com searchable. To be totally honest I could have done this very quickly right from the beginning but I wanted to add a little pizzaz to it. There’s no point in doing things half-assed around here.

To view the full search goodness make sure you have Javascript enabled/turned on — it’s on by default but occasionally people turn it off. The search form is in the sidebar and the nifty thing about it is what happens when you actually do a search. So go ahead, give it a spin. Let me know what you think.

League standings and schedules fixed

Due to a simple yet stupid mistake on my part the National Lacrosse League standings and schedules were offline for a while. Today, the problem has been fixed and both are back online. Because this was such a boneheaded mistake I made I’d rather not get into the details but it’s safe to say that I’ve learned my lesson, I think.

Speaking of schedules, I’ve been thinking about what to do with the schedule page after the season is over. One option is to show all this years games, in chronological order of course, and list the final scores — not unlike the schedule page on nll.com. Of course I would only show games that involve our Roughnecks but hey, that’s what this site is for.

Minor updates to GoNecksGo.com

After some consideration I’ve decided to update the way this site handles it’s pages. The changes make the addresses a little more pleasing to the eyes by removing the numbers in the URL or address bar.

From now on links on GoNecksGo.com will be in this format; http://gonecksgo.com/category/title/. No need to remember dates of your favorite post any more, just the category — which is a hundred times easier.

League standings available at GoNecksGo.com

Well, it took some fancy code wrangling and time but GoNecksGo.com now has a league standings page. There you’ll be able to find all of the stat goodies like wins, losses, games behind, win percentage, as well as home and away records.

Setting this up for you was a pretty good learning experience. I had always wondered how leagues calculated how many games behind each team out of first place were. After a little investigation — and some help from a few kind souls in the forums — I found out.

Team schedules added

This feature has been in the planning stages for a while. When I noticed that people searching Google for team schedules were finding my site — which didn’t have team schedules — I thought it would be best to give them what they were looking for.

In case you haven’t noticed just yet, there is a new link in the navigation bar called “Schedule”. This will take you directly to the schedule page — obviously enough — that lists all the remaining games in the season.

GoNecksGo.com listed on Outsiders Guide

Now that we’ve got some content going here at GoNecksGo.com I thought it would be a great time to see if we could generate a little link love with some of the big boys in the lacrosse web.

My first stop of course, was the Outsider’s Guide. They have quite an extensive list of links to all types of websites associated with and reporting on lacrosse. Editor-in-chief R.A. Philly was very quick to respond to my email asking to be included in that list. I would like to thank R.A. for adding GoNecksGo.com to the Outsider’s Guide.

What is a feed?

While I’ve been deeply immersed in the online world and blogs I’m sure that most of you have not. Since that is the case I thought now would be a good time to explain one of the features of gonecksgo.com, namely “feeds”.

First of all, the term “feed” is becoming more and more prevalent and seems to be replacing the less user-friendly terms “RSS”, “XML”, and “Atom” in the blogging community. Feed simply refers to the syndication of that particular websites content. As an aside, RSS stands for Really Simply Syndication but merely seeing the acronym is quite confusing unless you know the meaning behind it.

New feature: Next game

As mentioned previously there will be several additional features added to the Go! ‘Necks! Go! website over the coming weeks and months. The first feature to be rolled out is the “Next Game” reminder on the right.

For now this will just show the next game for the Calgary Roughnecks but there is possibility for expansion. This is where I’d like to hear what you think. The next game feature can be expanded to include other games happening around the NLL as well. Is that something you would like the option to see? If so, do you want to see all upcoming games or would you rather choose what team you’d like to look at?

Other features will be coming down the pipeline soon enough and as always if you have any thoughts I’d love to hear them either via email or in the comments.
