New jersey for the Roughnecks

Earlier this week The Calgary Herald had a picture in their paper of the new Calgary Roughneck jersey for the 2007 season. This came as an unexpected surprise to many fans. So, for those of you that don’t have subscriptions to The Calgary Herald and didn’t make it to the first exhibition game, here is what the new jersey’s look like.

NLL rule change: scoring from behind the net is allowed

The 2007 NLL season will bring a rule change when it starts this December. More specifically, the change concerns the rule that makes scoring from behind the net illegal. Starting this year players will be able to be positioned behind the net and have any goals they score count. The potential this rule has on the total scores versus the safety to the goalies seems to be a point of contention between lacrosse fans and players.

NLL looking for an international audience

It seems that the NLL is spreading its wings to look for an international audience. According to SportsBusiness.com, the NLL is using a company called Crocmedia to expand the league’s TV distribution to a worldwide audience. This partnership with Crocmedia will be to find suppliers for coverage the 2007 season and beyond.

In the bigger picture this is great news, the more the sport is promoted to a larger audience the more the sport will grow, it’s a given. Crocmedia director James Swanwick said “We believe that once the rest of the world is exposed to lacrosse and the NLL brand, there is no reason the sport won’t grow at the same rate as in America.” It’s exciting to see that sort of enthusiasm to promote the sport we love.

No more LacrosseTV

It seems that LacrosseTV is closing up shop starting December 1st. In an email sent out to subscribers by itvn, the company that offered the LacrosseTV network, they apologize for the “inconvenience” that they may have caused. In an attempt to keep, what I’m sure will be a slew of former subscribers, itvn is offering two free months worth of their current line-up of services as a consolation.

Unfortunately for us lacrosse fans this is no consolation since LacrosseTV was the only way some fans were able to watch any games last year. With the season a little under a month away for most teams, the Canadian market still finds itself without television coverage.

What would you ask your favorite Roughneck player

This site has been a little lacking lately and I apologize for that. In an effort to change gears, I’d like to interview a few of the Calgary Roughneck players, both past and present — that I can get a hold of — and I want you to participate as well.

At this point I can contact a number of the top name players that were or are on the team, both this year and last. If anyone would like to see an interview with any of the up and coming Roughnecks I’d be more than happy to work it out, just let me know who you’d like to see interviewed on this site. (more…)

Roughnecks logo removed from GoNecksGo.com website

In case you couldn’t tell, there have been a couple changes around GoNecksGo.com recently. These changes, at the moment, are mainly cosmetic and are meant as preventative measures against potential legal action. Before things get blown out of proportion, I want to make it clear that no lawyers are involved, I’ve just been given a “heads up” on the proper, or rather, improper use of the official Roughnecks logo on GoNecksGo.com. Roughnecks picks from the 2006 Entry draft

Last night was the 2006 NLL Entry and College draft and it was held at the famed Madison Square Gardens in New York. While it wasn’t an overly publicized event in comparison to the NFL of NHL drafts usually are, there was decent media coverage and a live broadcast from the B2 Network. (more…)

More players signed by the Calgary Roughnecks

Over the past few weeks the management has been busy signing players to the Calgary Roughneck organization. Some old, some new and some are somewhere in the middle.

Starting off with some of the names you’ll recognize, Jesse Phillips, Kaleb Toth, Lewis Ratcliff and fan fav Ryan McNish have all signed deals to stay with the Roughnecks. All of these guys have been signed to one year contracts and there has been no disclosure on any of the terms for any of the contracts — which in and of itself I find interesting because most hockey contracts are almost fully disclosed but that’s a thought for another day.
